DRIVE Hui: RSVP for June 12th

DRIVE hui are friendly, inclusive events with a variety of activities, and all are welcome. The next hui will involve a workshop around self-care facilitated by Kerri Butler of Take Notice and a chance to learn about co-design and the role you may be able to play in making sure Counties Manukau has the best mental health and addiction services possible.

Please remember to RSVP for DRIVE hui so they can provide appropriately food, chairs and resources. It is fine to send a ‘maybe’ if you are not certain you can come, but please give an estimate. You also might like to invite a supporter or some one else in recovery who has not attended a DRIVE event before.

Round the Bays: Free sponsored Places!
DRIVE are pleased to announce that CHAMP is supporting sponsored places for those who would like to run Round the Bays on Sunday 8 March. Registration is paid, support is offered for getting Counties Manukau consumers to and from the event and there will be a BBQ afterward. Suicide Prevention Trainings Coming Up Across Auckland

Trainings for youth workers and community

Training provided by CMDHB for youth workers, community gatekeepers and public who work with people at risk. This is an opportunity to improve your skills around working with young people, Self harm and suicide. This is provided at no cost to you. Venues to be confirmed.
Next trainings are

  • Friday 3rd May 10am and 1pm
  • Monday 13th May 10am and 1pm
  • Tuesday 14th May 10am and 1pm.

There is also the capacity to book an entire session for your staff.

ASIST is a two day Lifeline Aotearoa Suicide prevention workshop provided in Auckland for $340 per person. Next courses:

Mental Health First Aid

Mental Health First Aid for whanau is free of charge to Counties communities and staff by Raukura & Mahitahi.  It is a 2 day workshop which is planned to occur monthly.

Mental Health First Aid for mainstream, Pacific and Asian communities will also be available free of charge to Counties Communities. This is currently work under development.

Volunteer for Age Concern Counties Manukau

AGE CONCERN NEED VOLUNTEERS

Do you have friends, family, colleagues or neighbours who would be interested in becoming am AVS visitor?

All you need is one hour a week and the willingness to provide companionship to an older person

Age Concern are currently in search of new volunteers for the Accredited Visiting Service

Each month Age Concern have around 10 referrals but only 4 new volunteers

Age Concern are looking for volunteers from all over the Counties Manukau DHB area

Social Worker Wanted for Counties Manukau Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service

Social Worker – Pohutukawa Team, Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (12 month fixed term contract)

Seeking a Social Worker who has a genuine interest in working with young people aged between 12 and 18 years who present with serious mental health concerns.

The position is available now and the right candidate is desired to start as soon as possible.

Essential to the role

· Relevant professional qualification
· Current annual practicing certificate and professional registration
· Evidenced cultural competency
· Knowledge and understanding of the Treaty of Waitangi and the relevance to health
· Proven time management and organisational skills
· Current NZ and clean driver’s licence

Preferred

· Minimum of 2 years post qualification experience
· Experience working with an interdisciplinary approach to care
· Experience in providing mental health services to youth

CHILD & YOUTH MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES

Joanne Holo, Team Manager, Whirinaki will give overview of services – referral methods, assessment processes and treatment options  (see details below)

“Whirinaki provides specialist assessment and treatment for children and young people experiencing significant emotional, mental health and / or behavioural problems.”

Offering a range of treatment including: Family Therapy, Play Therapy, TSI (Therapeutic Story Telling Intervention), CBT, parenting groups, individual and group therapy.

For the presentation, Joanne will be giving an overview of the service, the different teams, the types of children and young people that are referred to Whirinaki, how to refer, the assessment process and treatment options.

There will be time for questions at the end.

Maternity Services Review (CMDHB)

Counties Manukau District Health Board (CMDHB) are currently reviewing how maternity care is delivered within Counties Manukau (Manukau, Papakura, Franklin) to improve maternity services for mothers and babies. CMDHB are interested in feedback about peoples’ experiences of maternity, antenatal and postnatal care – not just hospital services but right across the maternity service.

The submission form is accessible on the CMDHB website. It can be completed on line and sent in. The site is www.cmdhb.org.nz.
