Peer Support Worker Wanted in Manukau

Connect Supporting Recovery are looking for a Peer Support Worker who:

  • Has a Current drivers licence
  • Is mature, patient and respectful.
  • Has experienced problems with their own substance use and recovery and can act as a role model to others
  • Has good communication and active listening skills
  • Is positive and encouraging with a good sense of humour.
  • Is willling to learn
  • Will hang in there when the going gets tough and is resilient an assertive
  • Is a critical and reflective thinker
  • Is able to work independently and as part of a supportive team.
  • Has their own transport
  • Has computer skills  – essential
  • Has completed Peer Employment Training and/or IPS training

Free Peer Employment Training Manukau

Counties Manukau DHB now have two organisations providing Peer Employment Training (PET) and they both are recognized as preparation for work as Peer Support Specialists, within Counties Manukau. You can choose to apply for one or both but successful applicants will participate in ONE training only. Places are limited due to demand. There is no charge for these trainings.

Recovery Innovations NZ’s mission is to: Create opportunities and environments that empower people to recovery, to succeed in accomplishing their goals, and to reconnect to themselves, others, and meaning and purpose in life. Our PET trains future Peer Support Specialists to provide services using the gift of lived experience of recovery to inspire hope in the people they serve. You will learn to support people on their individual recovery journeys with the skills learned in this comprehensive, life-changing training.

Connect Supporting Recovery

We hold an unwavering belief in the fact that people can and want to learn, grow and develop. We also believe that peer-to-peer support could be one of the greatest learning experiences in an individual’s quest for wellbeing and in their journey of making sense of their own experiences of mental ill health and/or addictions.

Our Peer Employment Training equips people with a skills set enabling them to work alongside their peers in a range of employment settings and within a relationship that focuses on wellbeing and is based on mutual learning, empowerment and hope.

Connect and Recovery Innovations NZ will share information about waiting lists and enrolled students.  Please be aware that participation in either training does NOT guarantee employment.

The entry requirements are the same for both Connect and
Recovery Innovations NZ and you must be able to tick ALL the
following boxes before you can apply.

  • Do you have lived experience of mental health issues or AOD issues (alcohol and/or other drug)?
  • Do you live within the Counties Manukau DHB area?
  • Have you completed a WRAP Course (and have a certificate).
  • Do you currently have a WRAP that you follow?
  • Do you have a personal understanding of recovery?
  • Do you wish to use what you have learned through your own lived experience of recovery to inspire recovery in the lives of others?
  • Can you meet all the attendance and course requirements? (Please check with each provider to see what the requirements are. You will not pass if you cannot attend minimum session and meet course work requirements)
  • Can you read, understand, and write English at a high school level?
  • Are you eligible to work in New Zealand?

form. If you are shortlisted you will then be invited to be interviewed.
Remember places are limited but you can apply again if you don’t
gain a place in the training you apply for.
