Consultation with North Shore Youth Workers 5 July 2012

HealthWEST Te Puna Manawa (in collaboration with YouthLine, Te Puna Hauora, Odyssey House, The Fono and Waitemata DHB Child and Family Service) is in the process of developing a Youth Hub within the Waitemata District Health Board area – which includes Waitakere City, North Shore and Rodney areas.

The target population will be Maori, Pacific and unsupported young people aged 10 to 24 years old who may be disengaged from education, health services, not connected to their family/Whanau, may present with low mood, anxiety/worries a lot and so on.  Basically the hard to reach, high needs populations.

HealthWest realise that targeting unsupported young people will not be easy and therefore they want to consult with Youth Workers firstly around how to connect with young people – How and where?

Secondly they have funding available to fund interventions which aim to improve young people’s wellbeing, whether this be individual or family counselling, attending a group programme such as anger management or Tikanga courses, self esteem building and so on.  There may be other forms of interventions that you as Youth Workers know about which do impact positively on young people – and HealthWest want to hear what they are!

This is a great opportunity to not only deliver what works but to also look outside the square at other types of youth development interventions for young people – ie. Dance or music workshops, the gym etc.

They have consulted with the West now it’s time to consult with the Shore…..
