Community Consultation to Make Election Processes Accessible: 5 Dec 2012

Community Hui: Promoting Participation in General Elections for Disabled People

Hosted by Auckland Disability Law, Changing Minds, the Mental health Foundation, and Auckland Council

The Electoral Commission wants to hear how services for disabled people can be improved at elections.   Here is a link to the consultation information: www.elections.org.nz

They want to know:

  • any extra information you may need about enrolling and voting
  • how the Electoral Commission can make information about postal voting easily available
  • support for telephone dictation voting for voters who are blind or who have a vision impairment
  • any barriers to completing electoral enrolment form
  • any other initiatives that you would like to see the Commission achieve at future elections

This workshop is for disabled people and disability organisations who want to find out more about the consultation and talk about what to write in their submission.  Your comments will also add to an Auckland Disability Law submission and may be included in other submissions including submissions on voting in Local Government elections.
