Call for Submissions on the Local Government Act Reform Bill

There are calls for submissions to the Local Government Act Reform Bill and  you may wish to  draft submissions, as  you’ll know how much  you’re  currently being supported by Community Funding contributions, influence level re involvement in local Disability Reference and Advisory Panels and Groups, progress re local elections, whether  you’re benefitting from good will use or low rental use of community halls, etc.

See the attached article that tries to sum up the current political climate and some possible implecations, positive as well as negative, and below I’ve placed a colleague’s brief summitive comments in case people need a reminder of what might be at stake, where current inconsistencies lie and so on:

“The initial understanding is that the reforms will

  • refocus the purpose of local govt
  • introduce a fiscal responsibility requirement
  • remove the references to social, economic, environmental and cultural wellbeing that presently enable Local Govt to support local community services .”
