Hamilton’s FIRST ever Spoken Word poetry workshop run by Storm Cloud.

  • DATE: 29 October
  • TIME: 12 – 2:00 pm
  • LOCATION: The clearing to the left of the water tower on Ruakiwi road.

Storm Cloud is keen to spread the experience and wisdom he gained from his 2 months in Auckland gig-ing with the RISING VOICES poetry crew. There he was blessed to be able to work with 2 winners of Poetry Idol, the founder of poetry idol, many published award winning authors of poetry, South Auckland Poets Collective members, the Poetry LIVE circuit and many more amazing poets and emcees from Rising Voices!

This workshop is mainly to provide:
-Developing skills in the basics of flow
-Performance skills
-Confidence on a stage
-Tapping into a source of emotion for writing
-A get together for poets and emcees to meet other like minded people!

“Spoken Word” is a style of poetry best described as:

  • Theatre + Poetry.
  • Ghetto Rap + Formal Speech.
  • Free form spoken art that flows to an unseen rhythm and beat.
  • Words spoken and performed in a way to engage an audience. Draw them into a world of intense detail, tension, and emotion so other people can see into your mind.

A spoken word poet can write about anything. Experiences, confessions, secrets, emotions, family, political views, relationships, the weather — ANYTHING at all- No restriction on content
