Settlement Support Auckland Central: Newcomer Orientation Programme: February 2014

SSNZ Auckland Central is offering a week-long orientation programme for newcomers and their families, packed with useful and relevant information towards smoother settlement.

Choose ONE or MORE of these information-packed sessions!

Auckland Orientation Bus Tour ($5 per person): Welcome to Auckland! Join us to enjoy the natural & cultural beauty of Auckland while learning about its history, facilities, services and amenities. Requirement: Newcomers living in NZ for 2 years or less. Snacks provided; bring lunch & water. When:15th February, 8.20am – 4.30pm.

NZ Education System and Library Information (free): Do you have kids? Learn about Early Childhood, Primary & Secondary Education systems in NZ.  The workshop will finish with a Library Tour and info session on free library services! Bring your passport and proof of address if you would like to apply for a library card. When: 17th February, 9.30am – 12.45pm.

NZ Health System and Services, plus Safety (free): Learn about the New Zealand Health system and services. NZ Fire Services, Water Safety and Civil Defence will talk about environment safety issues. A session not to be missed! When: 18th Feburary, 9.30am – 3.45pm.

Renting, Flatting, Boarding, & Home Ownership (free): Important if you are renting, buying a house, or becoming a landlord. You will learn about how to buy a house in NZ, home loans, protecting your assets, and tenancy rights. When:19th February, 9.30am – 4.00pm.

Budgeting, Financial Planning & Taxation (free): Learn more about New Zealand taxes, financial planning, and spending plans. This workshop also explores KiwiSaver, financial resources, investment, and assets protection. IRD staff will also present on families tax credit and other financial issues that newcomers need to know. When: 20th February, 9.30am – 4.45pm.

Legal Rights & Safety Laws in NZ (free): New Zealand law is different from other countries! Do you know your rights? This session covers Consumer Rights, Neighbourhood Dispute, Traffic & Accidents and Community Safety. When: 21st February, 9.30am – 3.30pm.

This is an opportunity for newcomers and service providers and employers to interact, talk about Social Justice Issues and what it means to be a New Zealander in terms of rights and responsibilities.

The Manukau Settlement Network is made up of members from community organizations, individual community members, Government, Non Government organizations Employers and private institutions that support migrant and refugee settlement. Settlement Support Coordinator Manukau warmly invites you to the next local settlement network meeting for Manukau focusing on the Rights and Responsibilities of a New Zealander.

The session aims to bring information as well as address challenging social justice issues. This is an opportunity to interact with the Human Rights Commission, NZ Police, Health Advocates, etc. pertaining to your rights.
