Policy Analyst Wanted

Policy Analyst (Race Relations), Strategic Policy team

Auckland or Wellington based

Permanent, part time – 22.5hrs per week (0.6fte)

The Human Rights Commission is seeking a Policy Analyst with a primary focus on Race Relations issues

Responsibilities include:

  • lead the delivery of assigned projects or policy interventions within the Strategy Policy Team with a primary focus on race relations
  • contribute to strategic thinking, development and planning and produce material to support policy advocacy
  • develop relationships with key audiences
  • provide high quality policy advice based on knowledge gained through research, evaluation and analysis, including complaints and information provided to the Commission from individuals and communities
  • support quarterly reporting to the Minister of Justice

The successful applicant should have:

  • a relevant University degree (and higher degree is desirable)
  • knowledge of and experience in government and parliamentary public policy issues and processes relating to human rights and race relations, with particular knowledge regarding race relations and the Treaty of Waitangi
  • experience in the provision of policy advice in human rights,race relations or equivalent social/justice areas.  Experience is required in at least one of the Commission’s current priorities as set out in the Statement of Intent
  • excellent writing skills and understanding of research,intervention analysis,monitoring,and evaluation methodologies

Part-time 20 hours per week at Age Concern Counties Manukau

  • Work and liaise with local Iwi to promote positive ageing and to ensure training and awareness raising activities are carried out that enhance linkages with local Maori communities

The preferred candidate needs to have existing strong links with local Iwi and Marae and preferably some experience in community development.

They also need to be confident giving a Mihi and talking to Kaumatua and Kuia.  They will be a key liaison across all the services at Age Concern Counties Manukau Inc.
