Infoline Team Leader at HRC

  • Position: Infoline Team Leader, Enquiries & Complaints Team
  • Responsible to: Chief Mediator (Manager, Enquiries and Complaints)
  • Responsible for: Staff supervision
  • Location: Auckland
  • Salary: Band C
  • Status: Permanent, full time

Responsibilities include the following:

  • provide a front-line service for individuals contacting the Commission with enquiries on human rights issues by effectively assessing enquiries and complaints to determine appropriate action
  • organise roster and provide staff supervision to ensure that the Infoline is operating efficiently and effectively
  • capture and report on information on complaints/enquiries received

Person specifications:

  • knowledge and experience in providing helpline service
  • excellent communication skills, actively listens, draws out information competency and checks understanding, expresses information effectively, both orally and in writing
  • experience of staff supervision, performance management and development
    • experience of managing a database and analysing data
    • effective use of interviewing skills to establish and maintain trust, to elicit relevant information, maintain confidentiality and to record information clearly and accurately without influencing responses
    • experience in breaking complex information down logically to identify key aspects,  including what is being sought and any links between information from different sources
    • aware of the functions of various government and non-governmental agencies for referral purposes and media awareness
    • experience in workflow management

Permanent, part time (22.5 hours per week), Auckland Central

The Human Rights Commission is seeking a part-time Advisor (22.5 hours per week worked over 3 days) for InfoLine, our information service helpline based in Auckland.

The Commission advocates and promotes respect for, and an understanding and appreciation of, human rights in New Zealand society, and encourages the maintenance and development of harmonious relations in New Zealand.

Can you:

  • remain calm under pressure
  • accurately capture and report information on complaints/enquiries received
  • work with diverse communities
  • maintain a high degree of confidentiality and discretion

Do you have:

  • experience in providing helpline services
  • knowledge of, or interest in, the Human Rights Act, the Treaty of Waitangi, te reo and tikanga
  • a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and experience in data entry
  • an awareness of the functions of various government and non governmental agencies for referral purposes
