ASIST Two Day Workshop to Learn Suicide First Aid Skills: Otara

ASIST: Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training
This two day skills based, interactive workshop, prepares you to:
Identify person with thoughts of suicide
Intervene and support with confidence
Follow up on safety commitments, accessing further help as needed

Any adult might need these skills whether at work or at home. Kaumatua/Kuia, Nurses, Social Workers, Teachers, Emergency Services, Youth Workers, Ministers…you are welcome.

ASIST Two Day Workshop to Learn Suicide First Aid Skills: Thames

2 day workshop: Saturday March 29th 9.00am – 5.00pm.
Sunday March 30th 9.00am – 5.00pm.

Venue: Richmond Villas (follow road to 2 storey building at rear)

Cost: $250 includes materials, morning and afternoon tea, we need you there both days!

AIM: to learn suicide first aid skills.

You will learn to recognise when someone may be at risk of suicide and respond in ways that help increase safety and link them to further help.
FOR: any adult. You may need suicide first aid skills at work, within family or whanau or with someone you don’t know.

During 2 day ASIST you will:
• consider how attitudes and experiences affect helping
• discuss suicide risk openly and directly
• learn and apply a model for suicide first aid intervention
• share ways to care for and support yourself as a helper

Suicide Prevention Trainings Coming Up Across Auckland

Trainings for youth workers and community

Training provided by CMDHB for youth workers, community gatekeepers and public who work with people at risk. This is an opportunity to improve your skills around working with young people, Self harm and suicide. This is provided at no cost to you. Venues to be confirmed.
Next trainings are

  • Friday 3rd May 10am and 1pm
  • Monday 13th May 10am and 1pm
  • Tuesday 14th May 10am and 1pm.

There is also the capacity to book an entire session for your staff.

ASIST is a two day Lifeline Aotearoa Suicide prevention workshop provided in Auckland for $340 per person. Next courses:

Mental Health First Aid

Mental Health First Aid for whanau is free of charge to Counties communities and staff by Raukura & Mahitahi.  It is a 2 day workshop which is planned to occur monthly.

Mental Health First Aid for mainstream, Pacific and Asian communities will also be available free of charge to Counties Communities. This is currently work under development.
