Job: National Advisor, Asian Peoples at Plunket

In 2013, the Royal New Zealand Plunket Society undertook a research project looking at how they could improve the services and support that Plunket offers Asian families in New Zealand.

A number of recommendations and findings arose from the project, and these were presented to the Plunket Board.

Plunket is now seeking a National Advisor, Asian Peoples to lead their Asian Strategy and  to help develop better services and support to Asian families.

The Role

In this new position, you will:
• Provide national leadership and expertise to improve the health and well being of Asian children in New Zealand
• Facilitate greater engagement with Asian families and communities and build effective community partnerships
• Ensure that the services and support Plunket provides are relevant and responsive to the particular needs and issues faced by Asian families
• Increase competence and confidence of Asian issues, practices and cultures across all levels of our staff and volunteers across Plunket

The Person
As Plunket’s national expert in this area you will bring with you impressive credentials and a proven track record of delivery in a similar role. You will have experience of working with Asian peoples in a range of contexts, ideally community development and/or health promotion, and be seen as a leader in this area. You will understand the health and parenting needs of Asian communities according to their values and translate this into effective support and services provided by Plunket’s staff and volunteers. Along with extensive, demonstrable engagement within local Asian communities, you will have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with key stakeholders both within and outside of Plunket. You will have a broad understanding of the Asian region and fluency in one or more Asian languages would be highly desirable. This is a permanent position with hours negotiable.
