Communicating in the Peer Relationship

The reciprocal nature of the peer support relationship demands a unique approach to communicating effectively. This workshop explores what is involved in establishing mutually responsible relationships.

The course covers:

 Building rapport

 Exploring your world view

 The Strengths Model

 Appropriate self disclosure

 Dealing with conflict

This training is ideal for anyone with lived experience of mental illness or addictions who would like more knowledge and skills in relation to peer support work.

Motivation to Change

  • Date: Wednesday 14th August 2013
  • Time: 10.00 – 4.00 pm

Supporting clients to set and pursue goals can be a delicate task, helping them to identify what they want when they may have stopped asking that question themselves. This workshop explores different ways to tap into clients’ own motivation to change.

The course covers:

 The requirements for change

 The Stages of Change Model

 Strategies for supporting people to become motivated for change

This training is ideal for anyone working in mental health, addictions or social service sectors who want to know about how to help the people they work with become motivated to change.

Amplifying Strengths

  • Date: Wednesday 21st August 2013
  • Time: 10.00 am – 4.00pm

This workshop offers a robust grounding in what the Strengths Model is all about, and just what it actually means for everyday, coal-face mental health work. The course looks at how a focus on strengths is not just a ‘nice idea’ but a powerful tool you can use to help activate recovery.

The course covers:

 The principles of the Strengths Model

 Using a strengths based approach with service users

 Working with families/whanau

 Using the Strengths Model in everyday practice

This training is ideal for anyone working in mental health, addictions or social service sectors who want to know about the Strengths Model or use strengths based approach with the people they work with.
